The Institute will demonstrate how word study can improve student skills in vocabulary, spelling and phonics. Based on the well known, Words their Way professional book authored by Drs. Donald Bear, Shane Templeton, Marcia Invernezzi and Francine Johnson, word study has become an exciting way to increase student achievement.

In this hands-on Institute teachers will learn how to:

  • Administer and score the Qualitative Spelling Inventory
  • Understand the feature analysis
  • Group for effective instruction
  • Understand the basic principles of a variety of sorts
  • Align word study to the developmental stages of reading and writing
  • Explore various classroom schedules and models for easy success
  • Practice sorting activities with the Words Their Way, Word Study in Action student materials
  • Develop strategies for a well-organized word study classroom
  • Understand tips for becoming a master teacher

Teachers will participate in meaningful hands-on activities that will help them understand the power of word study and the impact on achievement.

All participants will receive a complimentary copy of either a Words Their Way, 4th edition, professional book or the Words Their Way, ELL professional book.

Duration: 3 days

Cost: $499.00 per person

All training is delivered by certified trainers. Registration is limited to 35 participants.
